May 2023Liam Wotherspoon appointed as
Te Hiranga Rū QuakeCoRE Associate Director
Liam has been part of the QuakeCoRE Community since it’s inception and has had many leadership and research roles within the CoRE. Currently, Liam is co-leader of the Inter-disciplinary Programme 3 (IP3): A Resilient Aotearoa New Zealand Transport System, and will also continue in this role.

Kelvin Tapuke (Te Atiawa, Ngati Tama, Ngati Mutunga, Ngai Tai, Ngai Tai ki Tamaki, Ngati Porou, Te Whanaua a- Apanui, Te Aitanga a- Mahaki, Ngai Tuhoe, Te Whakatohea, Ngai Tahu, Ngati Maniapoto, Ngati Raukawa, Toa Rangatira), accepted the role of Pouwhakahaere with Te Hiranga Rū QuakeCoRE.
August 2023Alice Chang-Richards and Siautu Alefaio-Tugia both received Fullbright Scholarships
Alice is researching building recovery trajectories following the Northridge earthquake at the University of California Los Angeles. While Siautu is researching Pacific-Indigenous and urban diasporic resilience across disaster and humanitarian contexts, at the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center (NDPTC), University of Hawai‘i System, and the Centre for Human Rights & Humanitarian Studies (CHR&R) at Brown University.

August 2023Annual Meeting
The 8th QuakeCoRE Annual Meeting was held in Ahuriri Napier and welcomed almost 250 delegates.

September 2023Nirmal Nair and the team at SolarZero won the 2023 Innovation Award Category at the New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards
SolarZero and partners achieved a world first in late 2022 when it provided frequency response from 3200 household battery systems.
